Catherine Deveny's Pushy Women
Proudly presented in partnership with our favourite self appointed commuter cycling evangelist Catherine Deveny, Pushy Women will bring together Melbourne’s most fabulous and fiercely funny women to share their story of life on two wheels.
A gangbuster line up of town bikes, lady riders, pedal pushers, lycra ladettes, fixie hipsters, BMX bandits, dykes on bikes, step through ladies and women who don't ride AT ALL.
Six of Melbourne's most prominent comedians and performers will present their take on being a pushy woman this coming April. Now in it's fifth year, and second in the Melbourne Comedy Festival this laugh out loud storytelling event celebrating women's lives on wheels. Featuring:
Four piece feminist cabaret sensation Lady Sings It Better, award winning writer, novelist and slam poet Maxine Beneba-Clarke, stand-up comedy dynamo Becky Lucas,
Diana Nguyen, actress, performer, speaker, comedian and more names TBC.
Hosted and curated by writer, comedian, atheist and self appointed commuter cycling evangelist Catherine Deveny, Pushy Women is an ode to this inimitable Melbournian's love of bikes. “It’s faster than walking, safer than driving, cheaper than public transport and it’s the closest thing to flying”, Catherine Deveny.
“She's brassy in her delivery and transgressive in her material, acting as a mouthpiece for those tired of the blithe accepted wisdoms and no-go zones of mainstream society. Her audience is delighted”, The Age.
